what sucks is that academic ve4rsions are not allowed this free update.
what bs. considering i just bought the freakin app not more than 3 weeks ago.

I dont know why people on MR seem hellbent on defending Apple no matter the situation (literally)...
Because a huge amount of the reported details on this matter are wrong.
While the method of storing the cell location cache may show poor judgment on Apples part, I don't see any malicious intent. The system is logical implemented and on the surface, cell location data does not appear sensitive enough to justify encryption. It is only after further analysis that potentially sensitive data can be inferred.
Regardless it's good to see it being addressed.

Man, that is a crummy little house...
    Humm?

...by Silicon Valley standards if I ever saw one. I live in the neighboring town (Portola Valley), which is essentially the same as Woodside, and hence know many homes in the area (including the one I live in).
You're qualified to make this statement because you're rich! Awesome credentials!

And by current standards around here, not having a private bathroom for EACH bedroom, and a LARGE closet, is pretty substandard. Also, to only have *1* walk-in in the master rather than 2 is not good. No home theater? Large gym with panoramic views? Sauna/steam room/? Sun room? Library? Detached guest suite or guest house (in-law/nanny quarters, etc.)? Swimming pool? Hot tub? This honestly doesn't look like a place where a man of his caliber would be living full-time. Of course his house in Palo Alto isn't huge, either, but at least it is charming, historic, enchanted.
    Value judgement.

He has a number of kids, so I'm not sure how they would all fit into this small space with their friends when, e.g., everyone comes home for summers, holidays, etc. Typical houses for higher level people in the Woodside area would have at least 6-7 bedrooms, a bathroom for each bedroom, plus several additional half bathrooms, and probably about 10,000 squ. ft."Higher level people?" Who are you? Does above average wealth make them more deserving or special or some robotic superhuman that immediately "needs" more of everything? Some "higher level people" aren't elitist consumers like you seem to think.

Only thing that makes sense to me is that he would view this as his retirement house since it'll only be done ~5 years, anyway. And I suppose for retirement people like to keep it small and simple. That would make sense to me and might hint at when he might be planning on retiring.
    Ahhh. I see.

    . . .

Who were those two bastards who voted down rdowns' post?

    :D

The counter is crap anyway. It goes from -1 to +1 without a 0. And it seems completely random.

My guess is that others have voted while you had already loaded the page, and then when you voted, it updated all votes.

The iPhone to Verizon won't happen, especially with the announcement today that Verizon is teaming up with Google and their Android phone. I at first thought the commercial was just a leverage ploy on Verizons part, working on Apple and their negotiations. Now I think it's just the first shot over the bow.

Time to look at unlocking and bailing to T-Mo again and get out of this crap-shoot called AT$T.

    http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20091006-709550.html

i have been waiting for that announcement.
The iphone is great but the jailbreaking thing and the efforts made by apple to prevent jailbreaking is wearing.

It will be interesting to see if the jailbreaking community starts to move over to a more open platform (if its more open of course)

I thought box cutters were banned? Can you provide a link to support your statement?

Box cutters were banned in response to 9/11. As always, airline security is reactive. Bush sold us a bill of goods while increasing the size and cost of government.

If you like lots of bass I wouldn't recommend these speakers, but it is good. For what they cost I think that you definitely get your money's worth.

Logic Pro 7 has yet to be cracked, so Apple has people who know how to do copyright protection. I suspect Leopard will employ very strong TPM integration compared to Tiger.

Well, Logic Pro 7 has been cracked and can be downloaded via usenet...

Ok, Mr. Intelligent. It's been 3 years since the original iPhone launched. Perhaps Apple found a way to make a phone out of aluminum or a similar material, without affecting performance? Also, the iPad is made out of aluminum, yet it uses 3G service. You're acting like you know for sure what will happen, and you don't. None of us do.

And saying that, I feel the plastic cover has design faults which Apple are surely going to try and iron out.

Who has a 3G or 3GS which has cracks/ed on the bottom where the plug goes in? A huge flaw... Big enough of a flaw for me to know people who have walked into the Apple store and Apple just exchanged it for a new one...

What did you think they would do, rummage through all the non-app store apps on the Mac platform? Lol, some people are ridiculous.
Yes, hilarious. It beats me how they managed to give out the design awards every other year before the app store existed, it just couldn't have been physically possible.

I can name one big thing - visual voicemail. I think this is an amazing feature. Instead of waiting for the voicemail system to respond to your button inputs to skip messages so you can finally get to the one you want, you just touch the screen once. Please show me another cell phone that can do this.

As someone else has already pointed out, there are over 200 patents in the phone. While I'm certain that many are related to human factors elements and software, it's likely that there are some hardware patents involved. Only an Apple hardware engineer who was intimately involved in the design of the iPhone would be able to help you out here.

who are you kidding? what part of iphone is not previously existed in technology? yay it has a nice UI, like all other apple products, but the hardware?

remind me, again, what's revolutionary about iPhone?

And I can get a knife or fork at one of dozens of restaurants inside the terminal post security. What's your point?

George Carlin, once again, is right:

And if you didnt take a weapon on board, relax. After youve been flying about an hour, theyre gonna bring you a knife and fork! They actually give you a ****ing knife. Its only a table knife, but you could kill a pilot with a table knife. It might take a couple of minutes. Especially if hes hefty. But you could get the job done. If you really wanted to kill the prick. ****, there are a lot of things you could use to kill a guy. You could probably beat a guy to death with the Sunday New York Times, couldnt you? Suppose you just have really big hands? Couldnt you strangle a flight attendant? ****, you could probably strangle two of them, one with each hand. That is, if you were lucky enough to catch em in that little kitchen area. Just before they break out the ****in peanuts. But you could get the job done. If you really cared enough.
